4 COCKTAILS: "I really enjoyed this book. I wasn’t too sure at first. Yes, I do love menage stories, but I only like ones with two men and one woman, and I FOR SURE prefer M/M/F. I want everyone to touch and love each other. So, I took a chance on “When He Woke” from Taylor Brooks. She’s the writer who turned me on (literally, hehe) to M/M erotica. This particular story is an all male menage. The plot is rather simple. Matt and Aaron are in love. A terrible accident leaves Aaron in a coma that has lasted for nearly two years. Matt never really gives up hope, but after so long, he begins to live his life once again. Enter Steve. He and Matt begin a relationship, and it’s still in its fledgling stage when all of a sudden, Matt gets the phone call he never thought he’d get. I found the concept of the story to be very interesting and quite emotional as well. For a minute, imagine what it would like to be Matt…facing a terrible tragedy and then, finally, after a really long time, starting to feel happy again, and all of a sudden your world is blown up yet again. This book is well thought out, beautifully written, and contains enough detail to let you understand what’s going on in the three mens’ lives without being overwhelming. The chemistry between Matt, Aaron, and Steve is great. There’s tension and a bit of angst, but it doesn’t go on for chapter after chapter until we’re all ready to curl up in our bed, watch chick flicks, eat Ben and Jerry’s, and cry all night long. The sex? Off the charts! Just so hot! “When He Awoke” is relatively short read. I read through it in one sitting. Of course, I was completely drawn in and didn’t want to go to bed until I’d finished. It was also rather uplifting to read a story about three people who overcame extreme circumstances, and they still wind up happy. I highly recommend it." -- Kenna, Cocktails and Books

5 STARS: "I am a big fan of M/M romances. I like ménage more so than M/M sometimes. But it is hard to write them and have it work. Taylor Brooks has made it work, and done it well, with When He Woke. We initially meet Aaron Mayburn; Matt Caynor’s comatose boyfriend, who wakes after 2 years following a car accident. Then we meet Matt Caynor and his new boyfriend, Steve Pierce, whom have been dating for about three months as Matt was finally letting go of the man he loved when he gets the call from the hospital. From here, you have the complicated interweaving of these three lives as they come to grips with two people loving Matt and Matt loving both of them. They all have to make tough decisions, have their trials and angst, and decide what they are going to do about their situation; but, there is a happy ending is in sight. This is one of the better ménage interactions I’ve seen and I give it a 5 stars out of 5." -- Eloreen, Sensuous Reviews

STORY EXCERPT

The news that Aaron was awake now had changed everything for Matt. Aaron had been his partner, his truest love for so long that he never thought he’d find love again. The idea that he had and Aaron came back to him was a cruel twist of irony and fate that he couldn’t find a solution for.

Steve shook his head at Matt bitterly with disdain filling his every word. “You’re not going to say a damn word, are you?”

“Don’t do this. Please.” Matt begged him.

“Don’t do this to you? Wow. That’s rich. You have some sort of nerve placing the blame on me, Matt Caynor.”

“You don’t understand.” Matt’s lips were beginning to quiver as he fought against the painful emotions welling up inside of him.

“No, you’re right about that. I don’t understand. I don’t understand how the man that I’ve spent three months making love to could be such a complete and total stranger to me. I’ve misjudged you. But, I promise you, it will be the last time.”

“Don’t say that. Please…just…”

“Just what? Quit tripping over your words and say whatever the hell is on your damn mind already! What was it that you didn’t like? The making love part? Sorry, we fucked! Is that better?” Steve’s face was red with anger.

“That’s not what I meant. It was special. You were special. Jesus, you have no idea how much you mean to me.” Matt tried his best to explain the cluster fuck the situation had become.

“Oh yeah sure. I believe you. Apparently I’m just not special enough to share the truth with. I’m much more of a “lie to him” type of lover, right?”

“Stop it, Steve! Just stop it! It’s not like that. You know it’s not!”

“Do I? I don’t know shit!” Steve marched across the room and pointed toward all the items on the bed. “What I do know is that you had a whole other life before me that you felt necessary to keep a secret. Normally I wouldn’t mind. I mean, your past relationships are in the past. But this one isn’t in the past, is it? It’s awake now, and breathing new life into what it once was.”

“Steve…” Matt shook his head.

“I’m right aren’t I? I mean you haven’t come right out and said it yet, but I am right. Now that he’s awake, now that you have him back, we’re through, aren’t we?”

“I never wanted this to happen.”

Steve ran his fingers through his hair and shook his head. “You know that’s not true. I saw what the news of him waking up did to you. You were overcome. You love him.” Steve sniffled and blinked away at his tears. “You love him and deep down inside you had always hoped for this day to come.”

“I…Jesus, what the hell do you want me to say?”

“The truth, Matt.” Steve’s voice softened a little and he took a couple of steps forward before continuing, “For once, just please…tell me the truth.”

Matt looked up at him. His deep and sometimes hypnotic green eyes stared back at him. The anger that filled his words just minutes earlier seemed to be gone. Now there was a pleading in them. Steve wasn’t just asking for the truth, he needed it. And Matt knew that above all else, at the very least, he deserved it.

“Okay. I’m not going to lie to you. I’m glad Aaron woke up. We were together for six years before the accident. We had a life together. A good life. I never would have gotten involved with you if I thought there was a chance he’d wake up. I mean…yeah, I always hoped there was a chance. But, after weeks turned into months, and those months stretched into years, I started to lose faith that he’d ever open his eyes again. I just recently began to start imagining my life without him. It was supposed to be my first step into letting him go.”

“What did you see?” Steve asked him.

“What do you mean?”

“When you started to imagine your life without Aaron. What did you see?”

Matt closed his eyes. Every ounce of strength he had was quickly dwindling away into nothing but a memory. He opened them back up and looked at Steve, wishing he could find the right words to make everything all right for him.

“Do you not know? Or do you not want to tell me?” Steve persisted for an answer.

“No. I know.” Matt raised his hands and cupped the sides of Steve’s face. “I know exactly what I saw. I know who I saw. Baby, I saw you.”

Tears began falling freely from Steve’s eyes. With the ever-growing fatigue that Matt felt, he followed suit and together they stood there staring at one another as tears stained their cheeks.

“I love you.” Steve whispered through trembling lips. “I fell in love with you and I don’t know how to stop.”

“I know. Believe me. I know. I…God help me…I love you, too.” Matt told him.

ADULT EXCERPT

Matt couldn’t wait any more. It had already been two long years. It was finally time to find relief for the emptiness he felt for too long.

In an instant, Matt fisted Aaron’s cock in the palm of his hand and leaned forward. He opened wide and slid Aaron’s cock into his mouth. It hung thick and heavy in his mouth at first as Matt worked him to the back of his throat.

The thick veins protruding through the stretched skin of his dick only added to Matt’s excitement. He loved how rough and torturous they felt against his tongue as he worked himself up and down along each and every one. Like a road map, they wound and curved along his length promising Matt one hell of a ride.

Breathless, he pulled back and looked up at Aaron. His body looked so beautiful. He knew Aaron was disappointed with how much muscle mass he had lost, but Matt didn’t see any of that. All he saw was the man that he loved. The man that he had thought he’d lost.

“I want you so bad,” Matt mumbled with Aaron’s cock still in his mouth.

Aaron’s hands clutched the back of Matt’s head and pushed him further down on his cock. Matt opened wider, allowing Aaron to set the pace. He was now hungrier for Aaron than ever before.

Matt closed his lips tightly around his cock and nearly swallowed Aaron into the back of his throat. His thick head poked at his windpipe, almost gagging him with how much he filled Matt’s mouth.

He opened his nostrils wide and sucked in as much oxygen as he could, trying his best to keep his lips tightly clamped around Aaron’s cock.

“Oh fuck yeah, baby.” Aaron thrust his hips forward. “Suck me.”

Matt remained still, allowing Aaron to hold and keep the pace as he fucked Matt’s mouth with every rock of his hips. Drops of pre-cum hit his tongue and only enticed Matt all the more as Aaron continued to fuck his face.

Matt opened his eyes and watched while Aaron put his whole body into it. He reached around with both hands and kneaded his fingers into the plump flesh of Aaron’s ass. A primal urge was working through his body. It was something stronger than the mere urge to fuck. He wanted to claim Aaron and make sure the Gods of fate who had dared to try to keep them apart would never think to try it again.

Abruptly, Matt stood up and turned Aaron around. He wrapped him in a tight embrace and pressed his cock along the seam of Aaron’s ass. Then he thrust and ground his hips forward, pressing his dick against the opening that he wanted so desperately to invade.

Matt leaned forward and began lavishing long and hot kisses along the column of Aaron’s neck. He heard Aaron muttering something, but whatever it was, Matt couldn’t understand. He couldn’t make heads or tails of anything in that moment. All he heard was his own moans and the thundering beat of his heart.

He was too caught up in how good it felt to be back with Aaron again. To be in his arms, with their naked bodies pressed close together, it was almost disorienting and so completely overwhelming that he could barely see straight.

Aaron tried to turn around, but Matt held him in position. He only moved them slightly, just enough to where their bodies were pressed flushed against the bathroom counter. Matt looked up at the steam-filled mirror before them as drops of moisture caused steaks of their reflection to shine back at them.

Aaron’s thick cock glistened in the sunlight from the wetness of Matt sucking him off. He reached down in between their bodies and played with the round globes of Aaron’s ass. Kneading and massaging them in his palms, he couldn’t get enough of how good it felt to have him like this again.

Matt needed to lose himself completely with Aaron. He needed that reminder that despite the accident, despite the coma or their time apart, that nothing could break their bond. He needed to know that Aaron belonged to him and this was real.
