Very good. Just a really interesting read. I liked all the characters--they were interesting and I always felt like there was a lot of underlying "stuff" roiling just below the surface that was sometimes addressed, and sometimes not. I was especially surprised at the darkness in Jake and the way Max mastered him and Ally, giving them separate "moments" alonewith Max. I didn't quite buy Jake's reasoning for keeping secrets but his turmoil was compelling. If I had cone complaint, it'd be that the trio had been in a relationship for quite a while and I felt like I walked into the middle of their story. The author was good about filling in their pasts and how the came together, but I still felt a little cheated out of their early relationship. I wanted more, which really just means I was invested in the characters. I'd love a prequel to this book. Overall, just a really nice, emotional book.

So, I liked this book, but at the same time am conflicted about it. I give it a 3 for storytelling 4 for heart and emotion. First, the Good: Great alpha heroes, a new, really intriguing world of the Ferae, and a nice bit of intrigue. I really loved Lizzie, Colton, and Jarrod and their love for each other. I really felt it throughout the story. There was such an interesting mix of alpha testosterone--by both men-- and yet a soft love and care for each other and Lizzie. Now the Bad: IThe overall world building and storytelling. I really struggled to follow what was going on. There were so many characters--I had to keep reminding myself who was who and what their relationships were as the popped in and out of the storyline. Some of the action and turns in the storyline didn't make sense to me. For example, Lizzie is badly hurt by Colton and Jarrod's enemies. Once recovered she wants to leave town but Jarrod and Colton refuse to be run out of their home. Ok, fine. But neither Colton nor Jarrod do anything to avenge her. There is a major threat upon all of the yet the men did nothing, Lizzie is supposedly freaked out but she runs errands etc. freely with no protection. It just didn't make sense to me. It was only after the threats expanded to many others that finally something was done. I didn't get that. Other loose ends or story turns that didn't make sense: What exactly happened to Jarrod after his mission went awry---and why? Matt give Colton a heads up on the plot against their kith, but a few pages later Matt is asking questions like this is the first he's heard of the plot. Huh? Again, didn't make sense. Also, ****SMALL SPOILER WARNING**** the fact that there couldn't be 2 alphas. I get it, that's the way the world in this story is built. But I have to admit, I was disappointed that 1 had to submit. I knew it would happen as the hints were there and I appreciated that it was explained thru another character that the Beta didn't have to lose a lot of his "alpha-ness". Logically I got it, but emotionally, I didn't want to see it happen. I didn't want to see 1 of the lose a part of their personality that I had grown to love. I was happy that their connection was sealed and love deepened, but couldn't help but feel a little sad. I think I was holding out hope that b/c the 3 of them were so unique, that there would be a unique solution....but there wasn't. Hence, 1 reason I was so torn about this story. Finally, and this is a small nitpick but some of the storytelling devices were overused---like characters constantly asking and answering their own questionsin their minds. I realize it seems like I have a lot of complaints, but truly, overall, I really enjoyed this book. It has an emotional pull that is not easy to write and as a reader, I want but don't always get for other authors. I feel there is a ton of potential here for very engaging Kith series. I loved the main characters, who were complex and interesting. Just some tweeks for clearer world building and storytelling and this author can be very, very good IMO. I look forward to reading more from her.
