Kallista Robins (52) met Alexander Harrison (55). She might be instantly attracted to him but his obnoxious behavior left her cold.
Nick-named Alexander the Great by subs, he’s just that—a great Dom, but frozen-hearted and emotionless. He’s locked his heart away and fully intends to keep it that way.
But with Kallie, his world is turned upside down. Never having been in love before, or even allowed himself to get emotionally involved, these new feelings send Alex into a tailspin. But will fear send him back to being frozen-hearted?
And if he does, how will Kallie be able to stay in a cold loveless relationship?

“You haven’t heard a word I just said, have you, Alex?”
“Sorry, Dan. No. Please tell me again.”
“What gives?”
Alex didn’t answer for a minute or so, but Dan remained silent. He’d pulled up a chair and lay back in the seat with his feet propped on the edge of the desk, waiting. Alex had leaned back in his own chair, staring at the ceiling. He let the chair drop him back to face Dan with a loud bang.
“Am I a cold-hearted, emotionless prick? A frozen bastard?”
Dan roared with laughter, then catching sight of Alex’s face, he must have known Alex was serious because he stopped suddenly. Alex tilted back again and studied the ceiling.
“What brought this on, Alex?”
“Pamela left me last night.”
“Oh well. She lasted longer than most. So that was her parting gift to you?”
“Yes. So am I?”
“Do you really want me to answer that?”
Alex sat bolt upright quickly. “So I am.”
“Look, Alex, you’re a caring, interesting, and involved man.” He sighed. “Except for one area. You refuse to get close to any woman you go out with. Tell me this, when was the last time you went out?”
“I took Pamela to dinner last night.”
“And what did you talk about?”
“Talk?” He shrugged. “Nothing really. We discussed the meal, finished eating, then went back to my place to play.”
“That isn’t going out. Going out is socializing, talking together, and having fun doing things together. It’s being together through good times and bad and sharing life.”
“Well, I believed she enjoyed our games.”
Dan shook his head and sighed. “You know what, Alex? I love you like a brother. You’re my best friend, but one day, you’re going to realize you’re all alone in the world. You won’t have anyone to warm your bed in your old age. Being in control all the time won’t get you a partner who loves you. You’ll be a lonely old bastard. No one to talk to, no one to love.”
“Love,” Alex sneered. “I don’t need love.”
“Don’t you?”
His vehement answer almost echoed, his voice rising as he answered, “No.”
Dan leaned forward, staring at his friend. “Just because your parents both failed miserably doesn’t mean it isn’t possible to have a happy marriage and to be in love.”
“Failed? Hell, Dan, Dad has just gotten engaged to wife number four, and I’ve lost count of how many times my mother has married. Any wonder I have no faith in that institution?”
“Okay, don’t get married, but what about love? Surely there’ve been times when you’ve had feelings for one of your subs?”
“I try to avoid that. You know I do.”
“What happens if you meet a woman and you actually have feelings for her?”
“It’s never happened, Dan, and I intend that it won’t.”
Dan loudly blew out a breath, throwing his hands up. “I give up. But I’ll tell you this, Alex. One day you’re going to get caught, and you won’t have any fucking idea what hit you. I just hope it happens sooner rather than later because I really want to see it.”
