Average Rating:

My home is in the Dallas area, where I live with my husband. I have two sons, one of which lives close by, and the other in Los Angeles. I love to read and write romances. I like the way romance builds bridges to other worlds which only my imagination can take me. At a time when I was reading voraciously, but not getting exactly what I was yearning for, I started to write the kind of story I wanted to read. Putting my own words to paper is so much fun that now, even with a job, a husband, and two sons, I always find time to not only write, but read as well.

Q: Why did you start writing?

A: I’ve always been an insatiable reader, mostly romance, and I remember reading a book one day and it just dawned on me to try to put my words on paper instead of simply reading someone else's. I had one simple line in my mind and built upon that. Phrases would run through my head night and day and I wrote them down on scratch pads or anything handy. Sometimes I knew the lines, words, or ideas were exactly what I wanted, but they didn't necessarily go with what I was writing about at the time. So, I kept them, always waiting to fit them in at the right time. Characters and ideas zipped through my head at the strangest times, and eventually they all came together as Untamed Heart.

Q: Do you have a schedule when you write?

A: I really don’t have a hard and fast schedule. I have a job in the travel industry and I’m away from home nine days a month. I plan to retire from my job very soon and be able to devote all my time to my family and writing, not to forget reading. I still love to sit down with my reader and enjoy a good story. When I’m home, I usually write from about noon until 5:00 pm then again from 11:00 pm until 3:00 am. It sounds odd, but I’m a real night owl. I love to write when my husband is asleep and the house is quiet.

Q: What is your favorite character in Untamed Heart?

A: Since I’m a woman, I would have to say Shane. How could any woman resist a hunk like him? He’s a hard one to tame, but most women would certainly like to have the chance to try.

Q: Why did you pick historical romance and the 1800’s for your first book?

A: When I started to write, I wrote what I wanted to read. This time period is my favorite. Let’s face it, rough tough men with guns in their holsters strapped to their thighs. It’s just hard to beat that as a romance hero. My heart is starting to race right now just thinking about it. Isn’t that the whole point, to get the heart to jump to a faster beat? It’s certainly what I want when I spend the time reading. I have other time periods in history that I’m fond of, but for Untamed Heart, it had to be the old west.

Q: Why did you include the Cheyenne as part of Untamed Heart?

A: I’ve always been fascinated with the Native American culture. I think it added depth and an interesting flavor to Shane’s character, from hot to sizzling. The story has always been in my family, on my mother’s side, that we have a few drops of Comanche blood running through our veins. Supposedly I am a descendant of Quanah Parker, the last Comanche chief, never defeated by a white man. I’ve never done any genealogy research to find the validity of the story, so I’ll continue to believe it until proven otherwise. This may be what initiated my interest at first, but Native Americans, especially in the time period in Untamed Heart, has always captured my imagination.
