Danica Avet was born and raised in the wilds of South Louisiana (that would be somewhere around Houma) where mosquitoes are big enough to carry off small children and there are only two seasons: hot and hotter. With a BA in History, she figured there were enough fry cooks in the world and decided to try her hand at writing. For eight years she played at writing, but in 2008, she decided to get serious and began down the rocky road to publication.
Unmarried with no children, Danica is the lucky pet of a compulsively needy dog and two cats. The pitter-patter of little feet has been known to make her break out into a cold sweat.
Writing is how she gives the voices in her head a way out. They speak to her constantly wanting their stories told and she does her best to accommodate them. She writes paranormal romance and may eventually branch out to contemporaries. When she isn’t writing, working, or contemplating the complexities of the universe, she spends time gathering inspiration from her insane family, reads far more than any sane person would want to, and watches hot burly men chase an oblong ball all over a field.
Q: What is the Veil?
A: The Veil is the paranormal community that exists parallel to the human world. Think of every mythical being you've read about and put them all together to get the Veilerians, members of this community. They live in secrecy, living next to humans, but not a part of their world. The Eturi, or Eturians, are exactly opposite. They were once part of the Veil, but want to take over and dominate the human world.
Q: Why not just vampires and werewolves?
A: I used to MUD (Multi-User Dungeon) which is like an online Dungeons and Dragons. I was an elf druid and fought along side nymphs, satyrs, half-orcs, etc., and it was so much fun, I wanted to bring all of those races (and more) to my paranormal world.
Q: Why paranormal romance and not another genre?
A: I love knowing that the only limit to my worlds is my imagination. I also like to take old myths and beings and give them a new twist.
Q: If you could be any race from the Veil, which would it be and why?
A: That's a tough question. They all have their pros, but I'd have to choose Amazon. Who wouldn't want to be a sexy, strong, sassy, (how many S's can I get out of this?) stealthy woman who takes what she wants, be it men or another Amazon's shoes!
Q: Who is your idea of a perfect hero?
A: Gerard Butler (in anything) but especially in 300. He had the three H's going on: heroic, hot, and half-naked! ;)
Q: Where do you get your ideas from?
A: I have no idea. Sometimes my brain will give me snippets of a conversation and next thing I know, I have a character who needs a story. Other times, I'll think of a situation and the story evolves from there. It isn't an exact science, LOL
Q: What does Paranormal and Contemporary Romance with a touch of Cajun spice mean? Are we cooking?
A: I live in south Louisiana surrounded by rich culture and traditions, not to mention fabulous scenery, so when I began writing, I had to set my books in this area. I love my part of the world and want to share it with others. You'll read about bayous and sugar cane fields and read bits of Cajun French in my stories.
Q: What do you like to read?
A: Naturally, I adore paranormal romance, but my other love is the historical romance genre. I have a degree in history, so there are times when I just love to sit down with a fantastic Regency romance, or Medieval romance, and I can't leave out my Westerns! Cowboys, rar.
