Indiah Winter is a free spirit who is obsessed with making people smile through writing. She spends most of her time sitting in front of her computer mapping out plotlines for her next set of heroes. She is a mother to a mutant cat–Indiah Jr.–who was born with three extra toes; Ms. Winter hates long walks on the beach (all that sand in all the wrong places. Eww!); and has sadly never cooked something that didn’t come out of a box.

Q: What are your writing supply ‘must haves’?
A: Well, my ‘must haves’ include my laptop of course. I also use a cordless keyboard and mouse for when I’m lazy and feel like sprawling on the couch while I write. I also use speech to text software for when I’m feeling extra lazy.
Q: Who inspired you to write your first story?
A: Most definitely my father. He was my high school English and creative writing teacher. I’m not a strong writer, but he made me feel like a goddess of the written word crazily enough.
Q: What do you do when you are not writing?
A: I watch a lot of TV. Mostly shows I’ve already seen. I don’t like surprises and that is why I write my own stories. I can map out my own little world and I know exactly what is coming next.
Q: Do you ever experience writer’s block?
A: I’ve found plotting out my story beforehand helps big time. But on occasion I do get stuck in holes when I deviate from the script I’ve made. At which point I cry and complain to anyone who’ll listen. I’m not a fun person to be around when I’m stuck on a plot.
Q: Do you start planning out a story with plot or characters?
A: I like to start with plot. Most of my favorite authors start out with character, but I’ve found a storyline is a better place for me personally so I have some direction. Once I have a one sentence overview for the conflict, then I start hashing out character profiles.
