Laylah has always loved to read, and a few years ago she decided to try writing and has never looked back. Writing has become an all-consuming passion, and she couldn’t be happier. She lives in the South Island of New Zealand with her family. If she’s not writing, she’ll be reading, having a wine or out in the garden. She loves to hear from her readers.

Q: Where do you get your inspiration from?
A: Everywhere really. Things I see or watch. I often get the best ideas while I’m in the shower or in bed, which isn’t always the most convenient place as I then have to write them down before I forget!
Q: What environment do you like to write in?
A: I like a quiet environment around me, but then I stick in my earphone and blast my music. I find the library great. It’s where I get most of my work done. If I stay home, I get too distracted.
Q: What is the hardest part of the writing process?
A: Editing! I believe I’m getting better, but I’m definitely a fast writer, slow editor.
Q: What do you think is most important to get right in a book?
A: Great characters. They hold the whole book together. I always try to work out my characters first, what are their passions, motivations, their pasts and then that helps shape the rest of the book.
Q: Any tips for aspiring writers?
A: Finish the book. Then write another one. Just write and write. Read. Then write some more. Don’t let fear hold you back. If you have any questions, I am always happy to try and answer them.
