It is fantastic! The way ms. Brooke builds the rules of Desire in this first part of the Founding Fathers gives a good impression of the how and why of the town. The reason the contemporary town is still living in the dark ages. Men would never willingly give up such rules and the women are apparently too spineless to change the rules to fit modern times.... but it is so much fun to read about and works in litterature, and I can just enjoy the stories (and thank my good fortune that I live in a modern society, where I can keep my self respect).

Not my favorite but I did find it very interesting, discovering how the town of Desire got started. There are also some very intriguing secondary characters that I would enjoy seeing stories for.

This is one of those delightful novels that takes the reader all the way back to the beginning and introduces fans of Brooke/Dare to the characters that started this unique community with its unique guiding principles intended to protect their women and create a safe place to live amidst the dangers of the Old West. The concept of menage was not that strange in a land where women were scarce, but to this young woman it was a difficult change in the way she expected her married life to play out. It is a story that highlights the difficulties for those early pioneers and ranchers, but it also highlights the struggles many of those hardened men endured in coming to terms with the necessities of living tough while acknowledging the soft and tender feelings they had for their women. Many men never found a way to resolve that dilemma but that struggle is at the core of this story and makes for fascinating reading. I can't recommend this novel strongly enough.

A woman who has never really known love, respect, or caring and is desperate to save her mother and sister from the damaging anger of her father encounters two rough and hardened Texas Rangers who are ready to lump her in with the gang of thieves and murderers they have arrested. However, after telling her story they agree to travel with her and in the process become enthralled in her beauty and quiet courage and find they want to marry her. In spite of their best-laid plans to retire from the Rangers and buy their own ranch, circumstances conspire against them and even though Amanda is a married woman and entitled to the respect due the wife of Texas Rangers, she is subjected to the rage of vengeful people, kidnapped, and held as a hostage. However, Amanda is able to use these circumstances not only to aid her Ranger husbands but to demonstrate that she is truly a Western woman with skills and abilities that can make her husbands proud of her. This is a very energetic story and one that will be enjoyed by fans of historical novels set in the Old West. It is full of hot loving but the eroticism is never allowed to take over the story. It is the love of her Rangers which allows Amanda to become a woman who is secure in her own skin and proud to be who she is. She is a far cry from the beaten down and desperate woman they found on the trail. It is a wonderful love story and a delightful read!

Great book. Worth the amount. The book is not short at all. You have to have a mind set that this is back in the western days. Life for women was different too now. At first I had problems with the treatment of her, but had to stop and think of the time period. At the end the men follow through and she gives them hell. I wish there was a book two of this time set. There is a big jump from this book to the other Desire books.

I just adore this book. It's one of those that you can re-read or just pick up and dip into whenever you have the time and the inclination. It doesn't seem to get old for me, but then I do like historical westerns. Yeehaw!

As always Lana Dare/Leah Brook doesn't disappoint. This story is rife with emotion, well developed characters, tons of nail biting action, and oh yeah, smokin' hot sex! As the prequel to the Desire series, it really fills the void. I highly recommend it. And if I might suggest, reading it first in the Desire series. Although, reading it first, middle, or last in the series, won't affect how good a read it is. Five stars!

While not as good as some of the other Desire books, it is a worthy addition, especially since it lays the groundwork for the current day town of Desire. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series or, for that matter, anything written by Leah Brooke.

I own most of this authors books, and was really looking forward to reading the backstory of how the town of Desire came into existence. I had a hard time relating to the male characters and that was disappointing to me. I got that the two men left as boys and came back hardened by the frontier and fully grown, but I expected them to at least soften toward the woman they loved in their more private moments. Maggie, the female lead, struck me as very immature even toward the end of the novel. I wanted to love this book, but it is not the authors best effort. I do look forward to more books in the Desire series and hope the characters are more likeable.
