In the first of two short stories, the Wicked Witch tries to ruin the Good Fairy’s birthday. Will the Treasure Fairy, the Good Gnome, and the Tooth Fairy be able to save the day?
The second, two children and their pets get transported to a magic realm. The white rhinos are in danger from the poachers. What can they do?
Introduction
The Good Gnome joked, “Next month, you’ll be one-thousand years old, and I don’t believe you look a day over two hundred.”
The Good Fairy gave him a scowl. “I’m not amused. Hope you’re working hard on a surprise, and it’d better be a good one.”
“You’ll have to wait and see... won’t you!”

The birthday committee met in secret at the Treasure Fairy’s castle. The Good Gnome, even though he was the smallest person present at only ten inches tall, opened the discussion. “I’ll be in charge of the entertainment. I’ve pulled together an orchestra made up from the animals that live in and around the forest. We’ll be rehearsing in a meadow, deep in the heart of the Dark Forest, and close to the bubbling brook. They’re really good. You’re going to be amazed. Treasure Fairy, how’s the cake coming on?”
“It’ll be ready. It’s going to be a rich black forest gateau with extra cherries and whipped cream on the side.”
The Tooth Fairy, who was the youngest, and a couple of inc
hes shorter than her sister fairy, interrupted. “What’s my job?”
“Your job is to keep the Good Fairy busy while we do all the work. When the time arrives, find a pretense to bring her to the meadow without telling her it’s for a surprise birthday party. That’s the most important job. If she’s not astounded, all this work is for nothing.”
“My job’s important?”
“Yes, it is.”
The Tooth Fairy started to play with her necklace made from baby teeth, wrapping it around her fingers and smiling with pleasure. I’ve finally got a key role to play... no longer the junior partner.
