With working full time, Mathew and David had not had a night alone together for the last two weeks, but all that time away did nothing to stop his love for his fiancé.

It meant tonight was special in more ways than one. It wasn’t just any night. It was Valentine’s Day and if everything went well it would end with a passionate night of lovemaking. Hot and sweaty pull your hair sex. The kind of sex that left your body quivering and your legs tangled in sheets.

Mathew was almost ready to just skip dinner and go straight to dessert, but it was Valentine’s Day and he wanted to show his lover how much he cared. Besides dinner would give them plenty of energy for later.

They were sitting in a private table for two at Romero’s Italian restaurant out on the balcony overlooking the Mississippi River. The candles on the table flickered in the open air and a strand of Christmas lights provided a soft glow against the coming night.

The sunset painted the sky a brilliant rainbow of colors and light. The perfect kind of backdrop for romantic kisses and to profess their love for one another.
Mathew could not have planned the evening better.

Both of them were dressed up, although David’s flyaway short brown hair never really changed no matter how much styling products that David slathered on it. It always seemed to hang in his eyes and tonight it gave him a look that was like a little boy trying to play dress up. David pulled at the tie nervously and readjusted it about ten times on the way to the restaurant. He was more comfortable in a pair of jeans than anything, but he loved Mathew enough to dress up for him and Mathew loved him more for it. He was dressed in a suit and his jet black hair was tightly braided but fell to his waist.

In a word, tonight was perfect.

Mathew reached over the top of the table and extended his hand to his lover. David looked down before taking it up in his, wrapping his slender fingers around Mathew’s hand. Such a small gesture and yet it conveyed all they needed to share. There was no need for words, or anything more.

He was with the man he loved.

His life was complete in that moment.

Beep. Beep.

David’s hand flew out of Mathew’s to clutch the cell phone in his pocket.
