Chris wasn't surprised to find Will on his doorstep on a Friday evening. Standard operating procedure and all that. But going to Tucson Raceway Park in the middle of August was not something he wanted to do after a long day at work. Still, how could he resist spending the evening with the secret love of his life, even if it was just to watch cars go around in a circle?
But when they’re together, fast cars aren’t the only thing that can make a heart thunder on a hot summer night. Will's got a surprise in store that will definitely turn up the heat.
He dropped back down to the bench and turned more fully to Chris. “You see that? Fuckin’ awesome pass. Just slid around that amateur’s right side like it was nothing.”
Laughing, Chris stole another chip. “Saw it. I’m pretty sure he grazed the wall.”
“Nah. Bowman is too good for that.”
“Please.” Chris popped the nacho in his mouth and flapped his hand at Will. “Guy spun out in Kentucky last year for no apparent reason. Tied up the race in caution for eight laps.”
Will’s beautiful eyes swung his way, glittering with surprise. “You remember that?”
“Absolutely. You didn’t shut up about that race for almost a month afterwards.”
“You know you enjoy it when I regale you with race talk.”
Helplessly, Chris’ mouth twisted into a wry smile and went back to watching the track. “Something like that.”
Suddenly, Will leaned in far too close to his ear. “But it gets you all hot and bothered.”
Chris gasped and tried to swallow around his inexplicably dry throat. There was no way Will noticed Chris’ attraction. Absolutely no way. Not after hiding it for all these years.
Will’s roughly calloused hand gently cupped his chin and tilted Chris’ face until they were staring at each other. He seemed to hesitate, but only for a beat and then Will pressed their lips together. It was gently done, his friend taking far too much care in fitting their mouths together, but damn, it was sweet.
Thoughtlessly, Chris tried to push into the kiss further, but Will pulled back with a grin. “In a rush?”
Growling, frustrated, Chris took Will’s face in both hands and yanked him back in. Chris’ whole body tingled when their lips met again, not quite fierce, yet almost. This time, Will invaded wholly, slipping his tongue past Chris’ lips after a well-timed bite to Chris’ bottom lip made him gasp. He gave no quarter, entrapping Chris in a mind melting dance of tongues and teeth and lips.
The crowd roared around them abruptly and Chris untangled himself. Another spin out on lap sixty two had everyone on their feet, gawking. Will threaded a hand through the short hairs at the back of his neck, redirecting Chris’ attention.
“Maybe we should go discuss this somewhere else?” Will’s grin was sheepish, and ridiculous. The man had never shown even a hint of propriety at any point in the time they’ve know each other. But then Will’s bright eyes flickered just past Chris’ shoulder and up, towards the top of the stands. Peeking out of the corner of his eye, Chris caught the very disapproving glare of some yahoo a couple of benches up.
And yeah, maybe they needed to talk about this change, but seriously? “You would willingly leave in the middle of a race to sort this out?” When Will gave him a stern glare, Chris could only chuckle and tease. “Sacrilege!”
“Yeah, well, this is kinda very important and all the noise makes it hard to think, much less talk.”
