Glen turned away so Javier patted his arm. “Don’t worry, its normal to be upset.” What the hell am I saying? What do I say in this situation?

Glen turned back with tears spilling out of his eyes. “I wish me mam were still alive.”

“Isn’t she?”

“No. Road accident when I were ten.” He gulped and hung his head, his wavy brown hair flopping to cover his face.

“Oh! I—I am sorry.” Of course! I’d forgotten he said something about his mother on the day Tomas died! How could I be so stupid not to ask what he meant? Javier wanted to hug Glen until he stopped crying. Heat swirled in his groin. Oh God, not now! “Hey, you know the next race is a night race?” He babbled to hide his discomfort. “Come and watch it with me, I have my own flat in Barcelona. Well, it belongs to my family but I like to go there to get away from them, you know what a family can be like, they—”

Glen grinned and pushed his hair back. “Okay, okay, motor-mouth. You talked me into it.”
