I liked that Emma did not just jump at the offer that Zane made and that she is very independent. The secondary characters were interesting as well and I am looking forward to the brothers’ stories in the future. This is a book I recommend for every BDSM lover’s bookshelf. They are planning to open up a law firm together, so Jessie was going to get settled in and start on their future. Soon Jessie finds out that Chloe is missing and this begins her search to find out what happened to her friend. A week later, a clue brings Jessie to Club Submission in search of her friend. This is where she meets "Master Zane" who is a successful business man that likes to dominate at night.. Attraction sparks between the two and soon they join forces to look for Jessie's friend as well as start up a dom/sub exchange between each other. This story takes you into the BDSM world through both the “Master’s” point of view, as well as the submissives’. I found that I thoroughly enjoyed getting the feel of Master Zane and what feelings he went through as he dominated Jessie. This is the first book that I have found a Master’s p.o.v. included in the story. The author also takes you through Jessie’s journey as she fights to stay an independent woman even though her heart tells her she needs to submit to a Master. The story flows at a good pace and includes hot, steamy, sex as well as a little mystery thrown in to keep you on the edge of your seat. This is the first book in the series and I look forward to the next one. Jan Bowles includes a glimpse of some of the other Masters, which is a tease for future stories to come. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a steamy and exciting read. A LOVELY ROSE (4 STARS): "I’ve read Jan Bowles and I can honestly say that I haven’t been disappointed by any of her books yet, including this book I’m about to review. Jan Bowles, at least in my opinion, is right up there with Maya Banks and Shayla Black in the BDSM romance category. If you know anything about BDSM romance you know that Maya and Shayla are pretty much the best of the best. This is the first in a series of books that she’s having published, although I didn’t know this was a series when I took on the assignment. You don’t need to read the whole series to understand what’s going on with each of the stories. I think a running theme with Jan Bowles books is that the male hero, while not gentle towards the female protagonist, he’s not cruel toward her either. The reason why I bring this point up, is that the male protagonist in this book, Zane is a hard man, yet he wouldn’t purposely hurt Emma either physically nor emotionally. There is a scene in the beginning of the book that beautifully demonstrates what I’m trying to say. You’ll know what I mean when you read it and if you know Jan Bowles heroes (and even if you don’t), you’ll understand my meaning. Zane is a hard man, I need to say this again because he’s had a lot of emotional “stuff”, for lack of a better word, to have to deal with, so he needs to be this way. Yet, in true dom fashion, he’s extremely confident and he knows what he wants. Zane, deep down is a decent guy. Then we have Emma, who’s a little repressed, a little shy,and extremely determined. She’s determined to be successful in her career, her law practice, and to find out the truth about her friend’s disappearance . I found myself drawn towards Emma, and I liked her very much. In true Jan Bowles form, the two protagonists form a very close emotionally and sexually intense bond rather quickly. I really like the emotional connection that the characters make because they really need each other throughout the book. I found the secondary characters entertaining as well. If you like your romance sizzling hot, but also with a great story, then this is a book I can highly recommend for you. Emma Parkes has left her home in England and traveled to Boston in order to start a law firm with her best friend, Chloe. When she arrives and her friend fails to pick her up from the airport as planned, Emma soon realizes that Chloe has disappeared. After some investigative work of her own, she becomes convinced that her friend's disappearance is directly related to Club Submission. Emma visits the club in an attempt to track down clues and find answers that she hopes will lead her to Chloe, but Emma finds more than she bargained for during her visit to the club. I highly recommend this book and give it 4 out of 5 stars. It's very well written with a story that hooked me right from the start. Just as there are different levels of BDSM relationships, there are different levels in BDSM erotic romance books as well. I would classify this as a romance with light to moderate BDSM aspects. The story has some very hot and steamy parts, but I would not call it hardcore BDSM. Emma and Zane are both wonderful characters that I grew to care about and I was rooting for them the whole way. I could relate to Emma because she has always been such a serious person who always maintained her composure. Zane is a compassionate Dom whose goal is help her break through her barriers and allow her to lose control. There is great mystery and suspense in the story as Emma searches to find answers about her best friend who appears to have vanished. The author weaves together the mystery as well as the romance and development of Emma and Zane's characters. Without even realizing it, he had become jaded and dissatisfied with his life until he met Emma. His relationship with Emma grew before he realized that he was attached and I found his surprise to be refreshing. He realized that he was out of his comfort zone but went forward to build something lasting with Emma. The sexual chemistry between Emma and Zane was believable and hot. She considers returning to England, but perhaps Zane will be her incentive to remain in the United States after all. The chemistry between Emma and Zane is explosive and sultry, all at once. These two people work well together-as friends, as lovers, and as Master/submissive. Both are brilliantly intelligent and are often on equal footing. The one thorn in my side when reading Master of Submission was Emma's whiny, damsel-in-distress demeanor whenever she brought up Chloe. She segues from competent, capable lawyer to insipid, whining twit, which was so out-of-character with her in the rest of the story to be notable. I absolutely loved the rest of the story: the plot, the mystery, Club Submission, and of course, loved everything about Zane. While this part of Emma really needed to be mentioned, the rest of the tale was compelling enough to have me looking forward to reading the second installment in this new series." -- Bella, Fallen Angel Reviews
